This three-part publication is a celebration of the essence that is ‘hangout culture’ on the UK’s high street, specifcally my home town Amersham, Buckinghamshire. I followed the patterns of teenage girls hanging out in town centres from the first case study; my Mother’s story displayed through archival imagery from the 80’s and interview’s. Whilst drawing paralell’s and comparisons to present day teenagers, following the path my sister through a combination of imagery, essays, and articles, the project aims to challenge the misconception that teenage hangout culture is often misunderstood. In reality, it contributes positively to the retail economy and enhances social skills in youth.
